The fifth largest city in the Czech Republic lying right in the centre of Moravia is deservedly called the "pearl on a green cushion". This city with one hundred thousand inhabitants lies on the river Morava, is a traditional trading and transport crossing and forms the gate to the Jeseníky Mountains. Thanks to its historical significance, old university, cultural, military and church traditions, the city rightfully became the centre of the Olomouc region.
