Besides Sweden they are the only team that felt what it was like to win the U19 Women's World Championship. They will come to Olomouc in the most difficult position – as the defending champions. In comparison with the U19 Women's World Championship in Poland, the Swiss U19 women's national team's situation has changed significantly. They are not players who are just coming to fulfil their duty of reaching the semifinals. With their unexpected triumph in May 2008 they kind of made a rod for their own backs. Despite the gaps between individual countries are getting smaller and smaller, Sweden will still be considered favourites in every game for some time to come. It does not really matter which age category you choose, and whether men, or women – the players in yellow and blue jerseys are simply good. They show their domination wherever possible, and you can be certain they really enjoy it. Thus, missing the final game would be a national disaster for the young Swedes. But will their efforts be rewarded with gold medals? We will find this out only in May...

Fourteen best teams will come to Olomouc to fight for the title of world champions, including Sweden, Finland, the defending champions from Switzerland, as well as teams from other European countries.

We are introducing a country, where there is no women's junior league, but still you will see their young players in Olomouc. Slovakia will participate in their third U19 women's championship. The first one in Germany was not very successful; the tenth position meant relegation. Now they're returning to Division A after a clear victory in Division B in 2008.

While the Czechs were polishing their shape at the Polish Cup in Poland, the national teams of Sweden and Finland met at the traditional sports event, Finnkampen, which took place in the town of Vantaa this year. The spectators could see four dramatic games that confirmed the current trend – Finland is improving its quality by leaps and bounds and is closing the advantage of its Nordic rival. Every game thus offers a very attractive spectacle. It definitely applies to adults as well as to the U19 category we were here interested in above all.
