Urbánková: It's unbelievable, but I knew we would make it Print E-mail

The Czech girls have won the bronze medals in the battle against the defending champions from Switzerland. Tereza Urbánková, whom you could not miss on the court, contributed with four goals to the Czech success.

How does it feel to beat the champions?

It's unbelievable. But from the very beginning I knew we would simply beat them. I trusted in our team. The atmosphere here in the arena was excellent and that was our driving force as well.

How did you feel when Žůrková was injured?

Well, some of the players were really in a shock. I saw some tears as well. I was right next to Gabriela when it happened and so I had to calm down and try to help her. Fortunately, we got over it quickly.

Did you expect such a smooth beginning of the game?

We had more time for regeneration, went to bed early, and therefore we had more energy for the game. At the beginning it was fine. The Swiss were not so fast and were not running as much as usual, which enabled us to combine well. We scored a quick first goal and that gave us more courage.

You were virtually flying on the court, as if it was your first game only. Why was that?

We were really motivated but it just came itself. In such games it's a matter of course. You could see on everyone they really wanted to succeed.

After the penalty shot you were just hitting the balls away from the goal. Was this an instruction from your coach?

No, definitely not an instruction. We just didn't want to lose the ball on our half, so we rather hit it away. They needed to play; we had nowhere to rush.

You scored four goals today. The last one was an empty netter in a penalty killing situation, when you played four on six.  The ball got to the net almost over the entire court. Was it just a coincidence or do you practise it in any way?

After a poor pass by one of the Swiss girls I scooped up the ball and sent it straight at the Swiss goal. It wasn't very difficult for me, because I practise it regularly at the trainings. And today I made use of that (laugh).

Will there be a celebration?

Yes, there will definitely be one at the hotel. Some of us stay here, but some girls might to leave for their homes already. Still, there are quite a few of us who are going to sit for our school leaving exams. For example me. But now I don't care. We're going to sink a ship, which was our ritual. I'm looking forward to it!

Thank you and congratulations on your bronze medal once again.
