Czech LIONESSES won the BRONZE! Print E-mail

Today comes the climax of the World Championship with the last two games, and the first one featured the teams of the Czech Republic and Switzerland in their struggle for the bronze medals. Both teams have already faced each other in the preliminary Group A game, which ended with a victory of the Swiss team. But today's game again started with the score 0:0. The match was supervised by the duo of referees Hammerin – Boström.

Right at the beginning the Czechs tried to surprise their opponents and they succeeded at 0:31 with a goal by Tereza Urbánková. The atmosphere of the game was excellent. Swiss cheering was followed by Czech rooting, and Czech drums by Swiss bells. The Swiss girls were really surprised by the initial Czech pressure. The Czechs kept on shooting from all positions. At the beginning of the 8th minute Metzová was penalized for incorrect hit and the Swiss floorball windstorm started. In a penalty killing situation Gabriela Žůrková was forechecking the Swiss captain Flurina Marti and during the tackle she fell over the board. Her fall was so unfortunate that she hit directly the metal edge of an advertisement board. Our forward was thus leaving the arena on a stretcher and the game finished prematurely for her! The fans were a bit shaken but kept on cheering. At 14:24 Martina Čapková scored her first goal of the championship and the second of the Czech team in this game. Two and a half minutes later the Czech team was penalized again and the Swiss pressure produced a shot that hit the bar. Ninety seconds before the end of the period Walther managed to reduce the score to 1:2. And that was also the final score of the first period.

The beginning of the second period brought an up-and-down game. At 5:22 the Czechs went into a two-goal lead again after a combination from behind the goal. It was the second goal of the game for Tereza Urbánková. The referees were also jumping over the boards to keep the smooth course of the game. Throughout the whole game the Czech girls were showing their aggressiveness, fighting spirit and floorball skills. Marti did not want to give up so easily, tried to be the creative element in Swiss combinations and to produce pressure in front of the Czech goal with her teammates. The 13th minute brought a power play for the Czech Republic, which, however, remained unconverted. Right afterwards, Tamara Hašová was sent off on the other side. But the Swiss did not punish their penalty either, also thanks to the excellent Czech goalie, Veronika Skopková. At the end of the period, the Czech team captain, Dagmar Surá added another goal of the home team. Then the Swiss team started to forecheck much more. At the end of the period, the scoreboard was showing the score 4:1.

The third period started with Tereza Urbánková's third goal, which means she completed her hat-trick. Her parents were celebrating the goal as well. Right after, yet another goal was added by Adéla Bočanová. The Olomouc arena was full of victorious euphoria, but that was still not the end of the game. The Swiss team began pressing really hard, but without success. They tried their last chance and in the 12th minute they pulled their goalie. Their play with 6 girls in the field brought success, but their goal only slightly reduced the score. Moreover, a while later Tereza Urbánková scored into the empty net. And despite just a little bit later Rüttimann scored from a penalty shot, the Czechs could start celebrating. EUPHORIA, HAPPINESS, SUCCESS, TEAM SPIRIT – these were the main factors of the success of the bronze medallist – THE CZECH REPUBLIC.
