Encounter between Hungary and Russia, that was the final of Division B of the U19 Women's World Championship 2010 in Olomouc. The Hungarians were entering the game unbeaten, as the winners of the group. On the other hand, Russia lost only once, 3:5 to Hungary.
The Hungarians in the red jerseys started the game more actively and went into a two-goal lead quite soon after goals by Sándorovszky and Jetzin. The leading team was still more active but the Russians managed to reduce the score in the 8th minute, when Ovchinnikova took advantage of a fixed situation from a good position. After the goal, the game became tighter and first penalty was awarded to Jetzin for an incorrect hit. Despite a few minutes of big pressure, Russia did not manage to equalize. Around the fifteenth minute, Karácsony was in the centre of attention, because she wasted three big goal-scoring opportunities within a few seconds. In the last five minutes of the period, the game was up-and-down, but thanks to the excellent goalkeepers the score did not change.
Also the start of the second period was dominated by Hungary; Suszták scored in the 24th minute with a great shot just below the bar. The increased gap encouraged the Hungarians even more and thanks to Suszták they turned the constant pressure into their fourth goal. The domination of the preliminary group winners was getting stronger and stronger, and before the half of the period the Russians got only rarely onto their attacking half. In the second half of the middle period the game became tighter again, with many challenges and less chances, but still in very quick pace. None of the teams scored before the end of the period and therefore after forty minutes Hungary was leading 4:1.
The Russians have had very good starts of the third periods at the tournament and they proved it again when hitting the post in the first minute of the last period. The Russian pressure continued, but the excellent Hungarian goalie did not let the ball into her net, also with the help of the post, such as in the 49th minute. The Hungarians managed to get out of the pressure in the second half of the last period only and the game looked similar to the second half of the middle period. Both teams also substituted their goalies. Four minutes before the end, Suszták secured the Hungarian lead. A while later Nizovceva was penalized, and despite the Hungarians did not convert the power play, they could start celebrating the 9th position and hence also their promotion to the elite Division A.
The best players of the match were the Hungarian goalie Enikö Kárpáti and the author of the only Russian goal Ovchinnikova. |
